The Church of Socrates

It is a church devoted to God , a reasonable God that is consistent with most of the established conclusions of science. It is an unusual church in that it does not hold faith as a virtue. Indeed it holds faith as a particularly insidious evil in that any evil can be justified if a corresponding faith is created for it.

Centuries before Jesus was brutally executed Socrates was killed for his beliefs. In a very real way he died for our sins too. In 399 B.C. he was murdered for the "crime" of pushing people to think, of getting them to question their most basic assumptions.

Socrates would be the first to say he knew nothing and he was quite effective at showing others how little they also knew. The ruling elite did not like to have their rule questioned. The offended authorities arrested him and gave him a simple choice: exile or death. He choose death.

Up until his death hero's had been warriors who fought in battle to put their group in charge. Socrates became a new kind of hero , a man who died for a simple idea : that men should be allowed to think.

In mankind's long fight out of the jungle towards civilization it is the thinking man that has carried the rest of us forward. It is the thinking man that made so much of what we take for granted possible. In the long sorry history of man the places where men are allowed to think freely are quite rare.

Socrates died rather than live in a world where thought was a crime. A world where you believed as others told you to or else. Thanks to the efforts of the thinking men after Socrates we do actually know something now!

We call those cherished beliefs that guide out actions, that tell us what is right and wrong, "ethics". That in turn is based on some belief system. For most people their morality is defined by their religion. Unfortunately most religions are said to be "beyond reason". "Beyond reason" usually means "don't question this!" and if you do you'll ultimately end up like Socrates (or eternally worse fates).

Man is the only living thing in this world whose means of survival is reason . A belief system based on reason should be the foundation for all else. As Times change and the rate of progress grows exponentially the need for this solid foundation only becomes more important. Whatever faults religions have , they have the great strength of creating a moral foundation that survives for many generations. Did God give us sight and reason only to have us ignore His gift unique to Man on Earth? A religion based upon reason is His Devine Law!

Today rational men are in a battle against the irrational forces of Islam and Socialism. Socialist forces strive to control individual wealth in the name of some collective right. Under Islam's brutal fist the only golden rule is that Islam must rule! Both are constructed upon a foundation of lies and superstition. Both of them are in an unholy alliance against the mind of man.

The predatory urge to consume our fellow man leads to some odd bed fellows. It is the thinking man who is the fountainhead of production. The thinking man can live without mysticism. The man who has renouced reason cannot create or maintain a technical civilization. Because of this it is the thinking man these mystical factions must control. The forces of superstition ruled before Socrates choose to die for mankinds right to think. The battle continues today. Only the names of the players have changed. It is time for a God of reason to be in charge of men's souls! Time to bring back Athena but this time as the one and only God!

Mankind is on the verge of achieving a lifespan orders of magnitude longer than a century. Imagine a brutal dictator with such a lifespan. Could civilization ever be rid of such a tyrant?

Imagine instead a free society , with progress increasing everyday, yet stable, prosperous and without war. A civilization that does not waste the life and works of its fellow men on Utopian redistribution schemes or weapon races. A civilization free enough to let a man keep the fruit of his own labor , especially if that man is much more productive than his fellow men. A civilization stable enough so that if some two legged predator does fool his way into office he cannot hold it long.

That is God's goal. A God of reason. A God with men following Him guided by the light of reason alone. A religion worthy of men on their way to immorality should they ever achieve it. That extended lifespan is near and that is why God is committed to giving birth to this new religion: to prevent that immortal dictator from ever happening.

To bring God back into the life of those who doubt Him, the cynics, the skeptics and most of all, the scientists. To show these uncompromising men of reason that God is not only consistent with natural law but is the designer of those laws. To bring back the stability God offers to civilization and the rule of law. To purify the divine moral code that predatory rulers have corrupted by putting words into the mouth of God.

The Goal of the Church Of Socrates is to give life a comfort, a meaning ,a purpose in a way no other way can, and to do so reasonably
